The Idol of “Niceness”

Christians in the 21st century are making an idol out of being nice.

Being nice is not the same thing as loving someone. In fact, loving someone may require you to do or say some things that will cause people to say you are being judgmental or mean-spirited.

The fact of the matter is that unsaved people hate Jesus Christ and His people.

Whether or not we give in to their juvenile demands to be approved of (no matter what they do) they will still hate you nonetheless.

The life – and the words – of the Christian are a reproach to the world. They remind the world of the God Who makes a claim on their lives and Who demands their allegiance, even their worship.

Jesus’ life and message is a reproach, not only to the religiosity of Pharisees, but to everyone.

“The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.” (John 7:7)

Did you get that that?

Jesus testified about the world (not just the Pharisees) that its works were evil.

And because of this the world hated Jesus and still hates Him.
